Emi began teaching Zumba and hip hop dance classes at Salsa ‘n’ Seattle dance studio. As her classes expanded, she noticed that her students were hungry for more. In 2013, she created Drop Squad as an outlet for her students to receive additional training in a tight knit group.
Drop Squad provided technical training while also creating a welcoming space for dancers of all levels to grow. The basis of the group was that through community and dance, positive growth could be fostered.
The crew performed at various events locally and throughout the state, even hosting their own showcases to raise money for charities. Additionally, Drop Squad also hosted events to further highlight the Seattle dance community.
Although Emi moved on from her role in 2015, her legacy of the all-inclusive dance community is now being carried on by one of the originating members, Lex Ramirez.
